Hospitality Marketing: A Remedy to Problems of Hospitality Industry

By Verena Veneeva This article will provide a brief overview about the concept of hospitality industry, the problems faced by this industry and importance of hospitality marketing to ensure customer satisfaction and business growth. Hospitality industry has a long evolutionary history. In older times, analysts suggest that the concept of this industry was initially known with a synonym, hotel industry. However in modern era the terminology of Hospitality Industry is more common that comprises those businesses that provide services such as accommodation, food, and beverages to travelers seeking pleasure as well as those who travel due to business reasons (Gray & Liguori, 1996). Moreover it is argued that to some extend components of leisure industry such as cruise ships restaurants and to some lesser degree airlines are also considered part of hospitality industry as well (Papers4you.com, 2006). Though the industry is assumed to be in nevr lasting demand but there are certain problems that this industry regularly faces. These problems may include uncertainty to the costs of even most economic source of energy, increased trend of problems in maintaining profitable food and beverage facilities, comparatively more increase in labor costs as compared to productivity, customer dissatisfaction due to increase in size and number of rooms as it is claimed to increase registration and other services process time and more importantly very high competition that induces heavy rate cuts to survive (Gray & Liguori, 1996). Keeping these factors in view, in particular customers dissatisfaction and profit reduction, Lewis & Chambers (1989) asserts that hospitality industry historically did not realize importance of marketing and a remedy to industrys problem is encapsulated in hospitality marketing, both in its foundation and practices. It was further asserted that in 1950s and 1960s, industry focused on technology and updating their telephone reservation systems. Similarly in 1970s and later, businesses were focused to increase assets and forgot the essence of industry, that is, customer oriented service. It was suggested that players in hospitality industry should realize that hospitality product is different, that is in fact, something intangible that they are selling and as both product and reasons for buying it are different also different so it demands a different marketing strategy, something like hospitality marketing that requires customer centered hospitality need identification, specific segmentation & positioning and the hospitality marketing mix. Such trend can be observed around the world (Papers4you.com, 2006). Food chains like McDonalds, Pizza Hut etc are now focusing on customers service and taste rather than focusing on their own brand name only. McDonalds in India, for instance, operates differently while focusing on the vegetarian aspect of their tradition than McDonalds in USA where focus is more towards an easy accessible food facility. Hence the discussion may conclude that hospitality industry provided ever needed services. Nonetheless it may face certain specific issues that can be counterattacked through industry specific hospitality marketing References Gray, W & Liguori, S, C, (1996), Hotel and Motel Management and Operations, Third Edition, Singapore: Prentice Hall Simon & Schuster (Asia) Pte Ltd Lewis, R, C & Chambers, R, E, (1989), Marketing Leadership in Hospitality- Foundations and Practices, New York: Van Nostrand Reinhold Papers For You (2006) “C/M/142. Statin Drugs: Are They The Right Choice For You?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Athlyn_Green] Athlyn Green Statin drugs are used to lower high blood cholesterol levels. Millions of people take them. Are they safe? Are they the right choice for you? If you have high cholesterol, your doctor may recommend statin medications. These work by reducing the liver’s production of cholesterol and by increasing its ability to remove harmful low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from the blood. Additionally, statins appear to reduce triglyceride levels and increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL). They can lower cholesterol and are one treatment option. Although once considered miracle medicines, statin drugs are not the panacea they were believed to be. A growing list of serious side effects has experts now urging caution. Unfortunately, statin medications have given patients more than they bargained for. Statin-induced amnesia has caused some people to temporarily lose the ability to recall their name, where their vehicle is located, or how to find their way home. In all tests with rodents, statins have caused cancer. Because cancer takes a long time to develop in humans, the tale remains to be told; however, some studies point in that direction: in one trial, women who were taking these medicines experienced breast cancer rates that went up alarmingly. Did you know that use of statin drugs could lead to a depletion of CoQ10? Why is that significant? CoQ10 is important to the hearts functioning and those who are deficient can experience heart failure! CoQ10 depletion in humans can lead to a decline in left ventricular function. The heart is a muscle and it cannot work properly when deprived of this enzyme. Because of this, patients taking statin medications often supplement with CoQ10. Polyneuropathy or peripheral neuropathy may also result. People who take statins are more likely to develop this conditionone that is characterized by weakness, tingling, and pain in the hands and in the feet. Muscle weakness and pain may be the most commonly experienced side effects related to use of statin drugs. And active people may experience greater problems. Statin medications such as Lipitor, Lescol, Mevacor, Pravachol, Crestor, and Zocor are routinely prescribed for high cholesterol levels. If you are interested in pursuing other alternatives, supplements containing natural substances can be another viable approach when treating cholesterol imbalances. Plant-derived compounds and oils have been clinically tested and can be as effective as [http://www.healthy-cholesterol-guide.com/lower_cholesterol_naturally.html] statin drugs, while proving far safer. Oryzanol rice bran oil contains cholesterol-lowering phytosterols. Chromium aids in the synthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol. Vitamin E is known for its health-enhancing properties and is beneficial for countering atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries, caused by plaque buildup). Policosanol is derived from sugar cane and beeswax. In trials, it has surpassed statin medications, offering greater cholesterol-lowering effects. Inositol is used for peripheral vascular disease. Beta-sitosterol (a plant sterol) is used for treating hypercholesterolemia. As can be seen, natural substances offer substantial benefits in relation to cardiovascular health and cholesterol imbalances, supporting the body to adjust levels safely and naturally. After weighing the potential harm that may result from use of statin drugs, some people opt for alternative remedies. Whatever course you decide upon, remember, it is always important to obtain medical advice before attempting to balance or lower your cholesterol levels. Relationship Advice – A Sneak Peak into a Couple’s First Relationship Coaching Session

By Jeff Herring When couples come in for their first session, they typically come ready to air their complaints and gripes about the other person, perhaps hoping to win someone to their side. The first two questions I ask a couple in the first session are, “How did you meet?” and “What attracted you to each other in the beginning?” This surprises many couples at first, but my goal is to begin to help them focus on the strengths and positives in the relationship before we get to the problem areas. Let’s look in on how this went in a first session with a fictional couple we will call Bob and Mary. Me: “How did you two meet?” Bob: “We met in college through some mutual friends.” Me: “What first attracted you to each other?” Mary: “I thought Bob was a good-looking guy and he made me laugh. He was very spontaneous and fun-loving.” Bob: “Mary was really pretty and laughed at my jokes. We had a lot of fun together. She helped me to be more serious about the future.” Traits that made our mate great become traits that grate In our search for a partner, each of us seems to be drawn to someone with complementary characteristics. The complementary characteristics in this case are Bob’s spontaneity and sense of humor and Mary’s stabilizing, future-focused view. In most situations, these characteristics begin to be problem areas in the relationship. Me: “What seems to be the struggle for the two of you?” Mary: “Bob is so irresponsible, he never takes anything seriously anymore, including me!” Bob: “It’s just that I am so tired. of being nagged all the time. She is no fun anymore!” Next, I ask them a series of connected questions. First, I ask them to remember when and if the relationship was working. I then help them to identify and verbalize what specific things each partner did or said that made the marriage work. After that, I ask what is called the “miracle question,” that is, “If a miracle happened tonight while you were sleeping, and tomorrow morning your relationship was like you want it to be, what would be different?” Here’s how Bob and Mary responded to the “miracle question.” Bob: “We would have fun again. Mary. would notice when I do take care of things. I wouldn’t feel so criticized.” Mary: “I could trust Bob again to do what he says he’ll do. I would feel like I was important to him.” The miracle question allows us to focus on goals for the relationship. I usually send people home with the suggestion they continue the conversation about two things: 1. What first attracted them to each other? 2. How would they like the relationship to be? The Prenuptial Agreement Dilemma

By Jeffrey Broobin Should we have a prenuptial agreement? OK. You can look at the idea as very cold and unromantic. You can look at the idea as a considerate and practical way to decide before the marriage certain issues having to do with your money. It is interesting to note that the custom of creating prenuptial agreements is not the modern invention that it seems to be. During the 19th century, before the Married Women’s Property Act of 1848, prenuptial agreements were necessary for women in the United States. Until the act became law, everything a woman owned or inherited was transferred to her husband. If he died or divorced her, she was just out of luck. Nowadays it is not so uncommon to execute prenuptial agreements. And these are not just for the famous super-rich couples we read about, where one spouse is much richer than the other. These are couples who want to be upfront about financial issues and get that out of the way before the wedding. A prenuptial agreement is a signed and notarized contract that describes how a couple will handle the financial aspects of their marriage. The prenuptial agreement has many positive benefits that are not related to divorce, and although it is not very romantic, it has many positive elements. If a future spouse won’t sign a prenuptial agreement, it may be best to discover this before the wedding. The financial well-being of children from a previous marriage can be protected Personal and business assets accumulated before the marriage are protected by a prenuptial agreement. A prenuptial agreement reveals financial expectations before the wedding. A prenuptial agreement discloses assets a spouse may want to give to children or other family members in the event of death. In the event of a divorce, the prenup eliminates battles over assets and finances. Signing a prenup does not mean that a couple is anticipating divorce. Prenups address financial matters need to be faced. A well-constructed prenuptial agreement can preserve family ties and inheritance. Despite its many positive features, the prenuptial agreement cannot accomplish everything. A prenuptial agreement may be considered unromantic. A prenuptial agreement may give the appearance of a lack of trust between the partners. It is true that a prenup could create resentment between certain spouses. Certain requirements exist so that the prenuptial agreement cannot be declared invalid. These include failure to disclose all assets, evidence of fraud, forcing the agreement upon the other spouse, unfairness, and lack of representation at the time of signing the agreement. If you are considering having a prenuptial agreement it is important to remember these things: Dont wait until the last minute to talk about financial matters. Discuss the agreement early in the relationship. Dont try to hide your thoughts, feelings, and especially your assets. Burn Fat Naturally – 2 Killer Tips for Natural Fat Loss

By Tom Gifford If you want to burn fat naturally, then you should be congratulated! 98% of people just want some magic pill that promises no extra work or effort to burn fat. Truthfully, we know that fat loss needs some good quality effort and work to show the results you are looking for. This article will show you two great ways to burn fat naturally and permanently. Here are 2 awesome tips to burn fat naturally and permanently. BURN FAT NATURALLY TIP #1: Your workouts should include total body strength training Thats right, if you really want to burn fat with exercise then total body strength training 2-3 times per week is a great way to do so. The reason that total body strength training is so great is because the addition of lean muscle mass is an excellent way to increase your metabolism. The higher your metabolism, the more calories your body burns! For most people, this sounds counterintuitive. There is a common myth that strength training makes you “big and bulky”. The truth is that muscle mass uses stored fat as fuel! Fat is not converted to muscle or anything like that. Here is an example of a total body strength training workout that you can try doing to help naturally burn fat: 1. Bodyweight squats 2. Seated row 3. Leg curls on a stability ball 4. Ab crunches on a stability ball 5. Pushups 6. DB squat and press REPS: 10-15 ROTATIONS: 2-3 REST: 30-45 seconds As you can see, this type of workout uses every muscle in your body. The more muscle you use, the more calories you will burn! BURN FAT NATURALLY TIP #2: Avoid high glycemic “bad” carbs If you want to burn fat, then your diet is going to play a huge role with how successful you are! One of the biggest tips to remember with diet is to avoid “bad” carbs such as junk food, fast food, white bread, refined sugars, etc. The reason these are bad for you is that they make your blood sugar go through the roof. The higher your blood sugar, the more insulin your body releases to stores the excess as body fat. A better idea is to consume more complex carbohydrates. Complex carbs are great because they are a lot more work for your body to break down. This means that your body actually has to use stored energy to help with the digestive process. This is a great way of increasing your metabolism by diet alone! CONCLUSION This article is just a small piece of the overall picture for how to burn fat naturally, but it gives you a taste of some great steps you can begin taking. If you want more information, check out the links below. Good luck and train hard =) Want to Reprint this Article on How to Burn Fat Naturally? How To Die Slowly And Painfully: A Set Of Guidelines Using Reverse Psychology

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Francisco_Santander] Francisco Santander So you have decided that life is not worth living it up to the 80 year mark and you want to live just 50 years and, if you are lucky, 40 years, then this is the guide, in a few easy steps, for you to do just that. Step number 1: Lungs? What are they good for after 40? You have to smoke, but not just 1 or 2 cigarettes a day, 1 or 2 packs a day is more like it. The more you smoke, the more you can literally build your tar deposits inside your lungs. You are not going to need them anyway after you are dead. More smoke equals more carcinogens so you could get lung cancer. But this is an offer you could not resist: If you smoke, you could not only get lung cancer, you could get COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), you could increase the risk of a stroke or myocardial infarction, getting your legs chopped off because of damage to your arteries, all kinds of digestive tract cancer and much more. It is the all inclusive offer that no one could possibly reject. Step number 2: Exercise? I am not going to be a model! After all, you have decided that you are not going to live off your body and you cannot take it to the afterlife when you die so, why exercise? You can just sit and watch TV all day long and not worry about all of the greasy substance that is growing on and in the wall of your arteries. You really do not have to worry about it because it builds up by itself, effortlessly. And some day you get your long desired stroke or myocardial infarction. Step number 3: Vegetables? What am I? A cow? You see, cows were put there to eat your vegetables, process them, turn them into good old meat and cholesterol, not the cholesterol free and unsaturated oils of vegetables, and then you can eat the good cow that is doing the job of digesting your vegetables for you. This is the way to get your hypercholesterolemia running up. Your fat tissue gets bigger and you get your desired resistance to insulin. That is the first step to getting your diabetes. And with diabetes come all the things you waited for: Retinal damage, kidney disease, and a lot more risk of stroke and infarction. Step number 4: I know my mother had high blood pressure, but I swear can have it a lot higher. Ok, you have the genes that your family gave you, you can not change them. Some diabetes genes, some high blood pressure genes and so on. The point is you do not know how to activate them. Let me tell you that steps number 1 to 3 can activate them, but there is nothing like a sodium rich diet to get your rankings up in high blood pressure. You can make sure that every single artery of your body receives good hammering with every single beat of your heart (which will also suffer a lot). You could get you hemorrhagic stroke, Hipertensive myocardiopathy that could lead to heart failure or myocardial infarction, or better yet your own chronic kidney disease to enjoy dialysis and that could include all those joyful blood transfusions, immunodepression and much more. However, there is nothing like not knowing how high your blood pressure is and not expect when any of these organs is going to give you the surprise of your life. The idea is to follow this guidelines from step 1 to step 4 and get the opportunity of developing one of these diseases and conditions. Erasing the Stigma of “Mental Illness”

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Debra_Gorin] Debra Gorin As a physician specializing in psychiatry, I know that many emotional conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders are true medical illnesses with a biologic (physical) origin. Psychiatry has become more and more “biological” in its diagnosis and treatment approaches during recent years, but a very significant stigma still exists against those who are seeing a therapist. This has become increasingly difficult to understand, but it is a social stigma that is so very important to eliminate. Why does an embarrassment or stigma still exist associated with those who are seeking psychiatric treatment? Why do people wait so long before come for help – to the point of becoming nearly non-functional with their families, children and work environment? First, many people have a picture in their mind of movies in which psychiatrists are ineffective listeners of problems of patients who are lying on psychoanalytic couches. It is important to remember that psychoanalysis preceded our modern treatment approaches which now have a much higher success rate. We currently have many safe and effective medications, which when used with or without psychotherapy, help many people fully recover. Another reason for the stigma is in the use of the term “mental illness”. The field of psychiatry has undergone many changes in the past twenty years. Research into the functioning of the brain and nervous system has led to the concept of a “chemical imbalance” as the cause of illnesses such as Major Depression and Panic Attacks. In addition, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a condition portrayed so well by Jack Nicholson in the 1997 movie “As Good As It Gets,” is also caused by a chemical imbalance. Medications were used to help treat the “Obsessive Compulsive” character being played by Nicholson. Many psychiatric illnesses are not “mental” or “emotional, but are now understood to be “neurochemical illnesses”. Many people are told, “You can do this on your own, be strong, as if a person can easily will themselves out of depression or anxiety. Can someone “Be Strong” and make their diabetes or bronchitis just go away? These types of suggestions only result in a delay in seeking treatment or feelings of failure in the individual who finally does seek help. The stigma of psychiatric treatment also leads many people to seek help at the health food store, or other types of self-diagnosis and self-medications. Men in particular have to overcome an additional obstacle. It may seem “Un-Macho Like” to seek professional psychiatric help when one fails to understand or see their condition as an illness, and instead view it as a weakness in their character. Thus, injury to a man’s ego often contributes to their long delays in seeking treatment. My hope is that the shame and secrecy associated with obtaining professional psychiatric help will gradually diminish and eventually cease to exist. If we understand how the social stigma was established in the first place – the media lack of medical knowledge, societies’ understanding or ignorance, etc., then we should realize there is no need to “stay in the closet.” Let’s wipe out the term “mental illness” and view many of these conditions as “neurochemical illness, with the same non-prejudicial attitude as we do toward diseases such as diabetes or hypertension. 10 Pounds To Lose Weight Loss Advice

By Rob Cooper You may have 10 pounds to lose and youre just starting your fat loss program, or it may be the last 10 pounds to lose from months or years of constant work. The last 10 pounds are the easiest ones to lose and let me tell you how. 1. The Power of the Mind One critical thing when trying for the last 10 pounds to lose is the power of the mind. First of all, dont try to lose the last 10 pounds, but rather do it. Know that it is going to happen and expect it to happen. Simple enough to say, but it is true. When we get to the last 10 pounds to lose, we begin to coast and ease up on our training and commitment, but Im telling you to do exactly the opposite. This is the time to push forward and pick up speed, and be every more diligent in your choices. You must know in your mind that the last 10 pounds to lose is the easiest part of the journey. Use the power of your mind to visualize success and yourself not only standing at the finish line having successfully achieved your goal, but even more so than that.. Visualize yourself picking up speed and running through the finish line. Your motto should be there is nothing more powerful than a warrior running through the finish line. Be a fat burning warrior. 2. Increase your metabolism The last 10 pounds to lose is as easy as increasing your metabolism through exercise and a change in eating habits. Diet If youre not already eating 5 or 6 meals a day, then now is the time to change your eating strategy and the last 10 pounds to lose will literally fall off your body. Become a fat burning machine through diet by rethinking how you look at food, snacks and meals. Every time you eat, your body kicks into gear and works hard at digesting or burning up that meal to turn it into nutrients that your body can use for energy and healing while the rest is burnt off as heat (in a process called thermogenics). Exercise If you have been on some sort of last 10 pounds to lose program, its likely included exercise. You are probably doing cardio like crazy. Well, you should be. If you have not been doing cardio, now is the time to start. If you have been, then nows the time to kick it up a notch. The last 10 pounds to lose is as easy as increasing your output. Doubling your cardio to 6 times per week, or if youve already been doing that, then do a second cardio session in the evening for a twice a day cardio workout. Wow, that will really kick things into gear. One caveat: if you increase your output of exercise, you may also need to increase your calorie consumption a bit to match your bodies new need for food. 3. clean up your diet If everything is going well, you can take some time to finally clean up your diet. This means that the last 10 pounds to lose may require re-thinking your diet. Are you eating any condiments? Are you eating dairy products? Have you been eating low fat foods thinking theyre healthy and designed to help you lose the last 10 pounds? Here are some simple rules to help you clean up your diet: How many names are listed on the ingredients? The lower the number of items listed, the better it is for you. Can you remove condiments from your diet for a short period of time? Eliminate ketchup (which I call tomato flavoured sugar), eliminate mayonnaise, get rid of salad dressings. Eliminate soy sauce from your rice. What are you drinking? At this point, your goal of 10 pounds to lose would include a very substantial change in fluids. An increase in water consumption and a removal of all other fluids such as juices or other non-nutritional beverages will assist with the last 10 pounds to lose. 4. Wake up earlier means more time to burn calories The longer you are awake, the longer your body is burning calories and the more time you have to ingest and burn the 5 or 6 meals required. Eating every 3 hours for 5 meals requires starting at 6 am and eating last meal at 6 PM for example. For men, eating another meal at 9 pm. The longer you are awake allows more time for exercise. Doing cardio first thing in the morning before your first meal helps burn fat rather than any blood sugars. Make sure you exercise before you eat. Then staying up later allows for an evening weight training workout, or a second cardio session. The last 10 pounds to lose might be as simple as spending more time awake. If you are really trying to lose the last 10 pounds, remember that it should always be considered easy. If you tell yourself its easy and your mind knows that you think its easy that it becomes easy. You are what you think. What you focus on expands. Your mind cannot tell the difference between what you think is real and what is real, so know in your heart and mind that the last 10 pounds to lose is easy. Clean up your diet, improve what you drink for fluids, spend more time awake and make sure you stay active. Trust me, the last 10 pounds is an easy thing to accomplish. The Jewelry Drawer

By Helen Brown Funny how families are like food chains. All the toys and clothes that dont fall apart or break filter through from older siblings to the youngest. The theory extends to bedrooms and furniture. The day our older daughter moved out to go flatting, the 13 year old claimed her big sisters bedroom. I could understand why. The teenagers new bedroom has a view over the garden instead of rubbish tins and the flats next door. To encourage the move (and limit potential grief at being the only child left at home) I let her have a new dressing table. Well, not exactly new. My chest of drawers had become so battered, I could no longer pretend the scratch marks were deliberate, high fashion distressing. Our daughter was delighted to inherit my old chest of drawers because shed always thought they were posh (and didnt notice the scratches). They certainly are smarter than the horrid chipboard dressing table her older sister passed on to her 10 years ago. Worst thing about it was the task of emptying my old chest of drawers. There was no problem with the clothes. Half of them stank and needed chucking. What was a woman who refuses to go anywhere without fluffy towels and central heating doing with mountaineering thermal underwear anyway? The jewellery drawer was another matter. Dont get me wrong. The fact I have a designated jewellery drawer doesnt mean I own a lot of jewels. It just means Im incapable of throwing away anything that might have sentimental value. Such as : 1) A cardboard badge decorated with uncooked macaroni. The macaroni was daubed with gold paint to give it an expensive sheen before being glued on to the badge secured with a safety pin. While I cant remember exactly where it came from, it probably has something to do with the – 2) Handmade Mothers Day card with a stick figure drawing on the front and drunken letters inside saying love from Your Daughter. Next to the card I discover – 3) My old clip-on sunglasses, bought back in the 80s with great triumph, knowing Id never again have to buy ophthalmic sunglasses – until I took the clip-on sunglasses home and was laughed under the kitchen table by the entire family. Id secreted them away waiting for the day clip-on sunglasses take the world by storm. Its probably safe to throw them in the bin now even though theyre a perfect match for the 4) Dame Edna spectacles circa 1977. Honestly. Whatever possessed me to buy them with their swooping silver eyebrows? Mustve been under the influence of illegal pharmaceuticals. Or did everyone look that daggy once? I bin them along with the pocket calculator in its chipped gold case (from the days when everyone thought calculators were magical) and the 5) Mahogany coloured lipstick. Whoever made me imagine dark brown lipstick is fabulous? Some of those girls who work behind beauty counters should be arrested. Scrabbling at the bottom of the drawer I discover – 6) A babys tooth. My spine turns to Playdoh as I hold the tiny pearl in my palm. My jewellery drawer mustve doubled as the tooth fairys stash. There are two more teeth in the drawer, too precious to throw out but not pretty enough to be turned into earrings. Other things are easier to toss – 7) A rusted key, a small plastic dolls brush, an Anzac Day badge, various buttons and safety pins. Im less certain what to do with the – 8) Wiggly Woo tape. Lets All Do the Wiggly Woo was the only thing that kept our younger daughter quiet in the car when she was three years old. I put it aside in case she wants to hear it again. She probably wont remember it. Deeper in the drawer I discover more manifested memories. I long to see them because they belonged to people I loved, yet each one of them plunges a skewer in my heart: a dress ring that belonged to a beloved aunt; chunky necklaces Mum looked great in but nobody has been able to wear with her aplomb since; Dads old watch; a plastic tiki, the last gift received from a child before he suddenly died. Impossible to throw away, these relics are placed in their own special box. Perhaps one day, someone will glance at them, assume they have no value and toss them away. By then I too will have left this planet.
